Former Zoo neighbor now helps it manage risk
The Philadelphia Inquirer, August 18, 2003
Linwood B. Murray's new position as Vice President for Public Safety and Risk Management at the Philadelphia Zoo, which he assumed on March 10 requires him to be wary of potential trouble. "I oversee the public safety department and also manage the risk area of the Zoo, looking at potential losses to which the Zoo could be exposed," he said in an interview last week. His responsibilities include identifying, correcting and insuring against potential hazards and risks that could lead to injuries and lawsuits. "My job is to try to be proactive, to try to learn from past errors, but also look into being creative and prevent such incidents from occurring," Murray said.
Murray who was recommended for the Zoo job by Resource Development Company, Inc, an executive search firm located in Blue Bell, PA, came from Peco Energy Co., where he had been a senior liability risk analyst. He grew up a 10-minute walk from the Zoo and visited it about once a year when he was child, never imagining that he would work there someday. After graduating from high school, he went on to Millersville University for a bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene and safety management. He later earned a master's in environmental science and industrial hygiene from Temple and an MBA from West Chester.
